What a heart attack actually feels like

Vecteezy

Study after study has found that nobody wants to believe they’re having a heart attack, even when they are.

"This is something I talk about with patients all the time: Many people worry about overreacting or don’t want to cause a scene," says cardiologist Jeffrey Boone, MD. "But when it comes to your heart, hesitation can be dangerous
Even if the symptoms seem mild or you’re not sure, get checked. If you’re asking yourself whether you should go, that’s usually your answer. It’s much better to be told everything is fine than to miss a serious problem."

If you’re experiencing chest pain and shortness of breath, it isn’t a guarantee that you are, indeed, having a heart attack. Under some circumstances, it could be an anxiety or panic attack, but that shouldn’t stop you from getting medical attention ASAP.

Women, for example, tend to experience anxiety, fatigue, or back pain more than men when it actually is a heart attack.

But after you hit 50, doctors agree it’s better to be safe than sorry. You should always have yoursefl checked out if you experience symptoms.

"About half of people who suffer a fatal heart attack had no prior warning signs," Boone says. "But knowing the signs and reacting quickly could save you or your loved one's life
It doesn’t always feel dramatic, which is why it’s so important not to ignore anything that feels unusual."

CURIOSITIES

Please sir, I want some more

According to researcher Jared Towers, executive director of Bay Cetology, a Canadian team of marine biologists based in Alert Bay, British Columbia, there are 34 known incidents of killer whales presenting food to humans, and there isn’t any confirmed reason why.

Some have speculated that they’re playing fetch, though that would likely only be typical of a juvenile, and several of the documented cases have involved adult whales.

Another theory suggests a horror scenario, in which the whales are luring humans, using a seal or a sea bird they caught as bait in order to get the bigger prize/meal—the human him or herself.

Then there’s Towers’ theory: the whales are simply just curious and trying to understand humans better.

“I don’t think it’s easy to suggest there is one reason for this behavior because there are underlying mechanisms and proximate causes,” Towers said.

Others tend to agree.

“In a way, it’s not surprising, because
everybody who’s on the water with (killer whales) has experienced how inquisitive and curious they are and have had interactions where you know there’s something going on between us and them,” says Hanne Strager, a researcher and author of The Killer Whale Journals, who wasn’t involved in the study.

Sir Paul gets back

Happy Dance GIF by Paul McCartney

Giphy

Paul McCartney announced the other day that he plans to get back the only way he knows how: he’s going on tour.

The Got Back tour includes 19 dates across North America, starting on Sept. 29 at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, Cali.

He’ll traverse the continent, with stops in Las Vegas, Nashville, Buffalo, Montreal, and more, before the tour culminates with what will undoubtedly be two sold out shows at Chicago’s United Center.

This tour will surely be an incredible sight to see, but it will focus more on substance rather than flash. McCartney could sell out the Indianapolis Motor Speedway if he wanted, but he’ll be playing venues of all shapes and sizes on Got Back, perhaps in the spirit of his February shows at New York’s Bowery Ballroom (capacity: 500 people).

His show in Nashville will be at a new venue called the Pinnacle, which fits 4,500 people. On the other hand, Allegiant Stadium in Vegas can fit over 70,000.

Presale tickets go on sale to the public tomorrow, which you can sign up for here to have a chance to get in ahead of the general public.
