Show us your wares

Your kitchen was probably equipped with a few of these vintage Tupperware sets back in the day. Food storage containers are commonplace today, but the fad was really rampin’ up in the ’70s. Even Edith Bunker hopped on the bandwagon 😂

Whether you’ve got the real deal, or a Tupperware substitute, we’ve all got some form of plastic food containers in the kitchen. They’re super useful, but it’s important to know which foods should never be stored in plastic containers.

Hot meatloaf? Don’t do that ;)

Good morning Staker! Here’s what’s cookin’ today. Here’s how to protect your joints, a new pillow keeps it on the cool side but it’ll cost ya, and Ozzy’s book drops 🤘

Let’s get into it!

HEALTH

Want to protect your joints? Here’s what not to do

Giphy

Joint pain can become increasingly challenging as we age, and that’s especially true when it comes to the knees. After a lifetime of steps, the cartilage in the knees is bound to have some wear and tear, and most of us would do anything to avoid full blown arthritis.

“As we age, the protective cartilage that cushions our joints naturally wears down. Repetitive movements, whether through exercise, like running, cycling, swimming or daily activity, accelerate this wear and tear, leaving less protection between the bones,” says Baltazar Villanueva, CPT, a personal trainer and nutrition coach at Relentless Spirit Personal Training & Nutrition.

That said, sometimes it’s not what we do, but what we don’t do, and in the case of avoiding further damage to the knees, experts advise anyone over 60 to steer clear of exercises like jump rope, jumping jacks, jump squats, or anything else that involves high impact on the knees.

“The problem with jumping exercises is the landing. Landing properly and using the shock-absorbing muscles is a must to protect your joints,” says personal trainer Renee Moten.

CURIOSITIES

Perfect pillow temperature, but it’ll cost ya

Eight Sleep announced it’s launching what may be the most impactful invention since the wheel: a pillow on which both sides are always cold.

The Pod Pillow Case slips right over whatever pillow you already own, allowing you to retain the exact firmness and size you want; however, the water-infused case also allows you to control the temperature of the pillow.

It contains several tubes that are practically undetectable, which the company calls “silent hydro channels.” Before going to bed, you can input the exact temperature you want the pillow to remain at for your head’s ultimate comfort as you drift through Never-Never Land. You can go as low as 12° C .

All of this may in fact seem like a dream, but it’s about to get even more crazy. If you want to get one of these bad boys on your pillow, you just have to hand over $1,475 and if you want two, it’ll cost $2,300.

You may need to skip out on a couple bills this month, but at least you’ll get a good night’s sleep while doing it.

MUSIC

Ozzy’s book drops

Ultimate Classic Rock

Ozzy’s farewell show was a smashing success, and somehow during the three weeks between the gig in Birmingham and his tragic passing, the Prince of Darkness managed to finish his book, Last Rites.

The book is coming out tomorrow and in it he recalls the feeling of getting to put a pin on his decades-long career in his own way, describing it as the best medicine he ever had—far better than any drug he ever took.

“But as soon as the curtain went up I forgot about my nerves. Suddenly I was looking out over 42,000 faces, with another 5.8 million watching online. “That was when the emotion really hit me. I’d never really taken it on board that so many people liked me – or even knew who I was.

“But I choked up when I started Mama, I’m Coming Home. I mean, it’s Sharon’s song, y’know? One of her favourites. Lemmy wrote it with the two of us in mind.

“But the feeling I had was about more than that. It was my last hurrah. I’d made it to the stage after six traumatic years, after losing the ability to walk or do anything on my own. It was just the whole thing, all of it coming together.”

“There was so much love in that stadium, coming at me in waves…The crowd noticed I was struggling, and they started singing back the words. I’ve been so lucky to have had so many wonderful fans. God bless you all.”
